Ultrasound/Echocardiography
In collaboration with
local veterinarian Rita Miller, we are
pleased to offer ultrasound and
echocardiography services for our patients.

An ultrasound is a
non-invasive imaging technique that allows
internal body structures to be visualized by
recording echoes of ultrasonic waves.
Echocardiography is an ultrasound of the
heart which includes the use of Doppler and
color flow mapping to actually observe and
measure blood flow. Ultrasound and
echocardiography are very safe and can be
very useful diagnostic tools, with little to
no discomfort for your pet. Anesthesia is
usually unnecessary as most pets will lie
comfortably still while the scan is being
performed. For fractious or very anxious
patients, a sedative may be needed. The
technique itself is painless. Your pet’s
fur is clipped over the area to be examined,
and a water-soluble gel is used to enhance
the transmission of ultrasonic waves. A
hand held probe is moved over the surface of
your pet’s body, and the resulting “picture”
is displayed on a screen.
